Welcome

This month the theme for me has been Reinvention. It started out with me finding out about Dr Nadya Zhexembayeva, her website The Reinvention Officer and then me interviewing her on my podcast Business Bookshelf (to be aired next month). Nadya has created the title of “Chief Reinvention Officer” and with the help of her community has written a book titled “How to Thrive in Chaos”. This inspired me to have another look at what Idea Storm offers and reinventing my messaging (again). More of this below.

Activities in October:

Exponential Innovation & Leadership — driven by Purpose

In the 1950s organisations lasted for 75 years, in the 2000’s this was reduced to 15 years and it is less today. Organisations need to be constantly looking at reinventing themselves but often don’t have a clear strategy on how to do this.

In October we at Idea Storm have reworked our messaging to be Exponential Innovation and Leadership. It is structured around the diagram and contains the following four elements:

  1. Purpose
  2. Exponential Innovation
  3. Innovation Leadership
  4. Exponential Leadership

You will see that we have redone the home page of our website — www.ideastorm.co.za — and have written a blog titled “Four Elements of Reinvention” that can be read here.

Exponential Design Course

Idea Storm has been working on tools to assist organizations in their innovation and reinvention efforts.

The Exponential Design course is aimed at teams, divisions, business units or entire organizations to shape their organisations.

It is a 10 week course with week 2 and 3 focuses on Purpose, which is vital to increase performance and act as a North Star for innovation, weeks 4 to 9 covers exponential principles that shape the organisation and the course will end with the team putting together a 90 day action plan.

The Exponential Design course can be tailored for the unique needs of an organization. To start this process email me at lance@ideastorm.co.za.

Self-Managed Leadership by Oxford Leadership

Idea Storm is now an official Digital Services partner of Oxford Leadership for Middle-East Africa.

Why? Purpose-driven organisation consist of purpose-driven individuals. The Self-Managed Leadership (SML) course will assist employees to evaluate their purpose, values, goals and ends by them putting together an action plan.

The SML course can be done over 10 weeks as a team with regular Zoom calls or done individually across an organisation. An example of its use would be at the start of a financial year where it could be used as a time of reflection for employees to relook at their purpose, vision, goals and start the year with renewed energy and drive.

More information can be found on the Idea Storm website — www.ideastorm.co.za/leadership — or on Oxford Leadership’s website — www.oxfordleadership.com/sml-digital.

Exponential Technology

I continue to work hard on providing Exponential Technology expertise as I believe it is an essential part of an organizations current and future success.

Every month I put together a summary of exponential technology news stories and videos for the particular month. The one for October 2020 can be found by clicking here and scrolling to the bottom of the page.

I have a section on the Idea Storm website dedicated to exponential technology and so if you have an interest in this it can be found here.

All of this is free of charge and available for you to access and use.

The Business Bookshelf Podcast

The podcast continue to go from strength to strength and now has 87 episodes. This month also saw a name change of the podcast from “Exponential Organisations” to the new name “Business Bookshelf”.

The guests featured in October were:

On Wednesday September 30 I was privileged to speak on a webinar titled “How Purpose Drives Performance: Learn how Exponential Companies Grow 10x Bigger, 10x Faster”. This podcast is a recording of this webinar.

Marcus Kirsch is the founder of The Wicked Company, an applied transformation and service design consultancy based in London. I’ll use the intro from his book — Marcus has the degree of a design practitioner, the eye and hand of an artist and designer and the sharp and challenging wit of a savant.

I am joined by Kevin Allen — Chief Community Officer of OpenExO. He tells us of the activities that took place in September and plans for October. Visit OpenExO by going to www.openexo.com.

This is a bonus episode of the podcast. I recently had the privilege of being a guest on the Shiny Happy People podcast on an episode titled “Growing Your Organization Exponentially”.

To end the October newsletter and help us to push on into November here is a quote from James Altucher.

“Every day you reinvent yourself. You’re always in motion. But you decide every day. Forward or backward”.

Let’s move forward in November together!

If you would like to chat to me I am always available — just book me on Calendly — https://calendly.com/ideastorm — or send an email to lance@ideastorm.co.za.
